Being the tech savvy gadget guru that I am, I like to make sure that all my electronic devices are up to date with the latest firmware and software. I recently upgraded my cell phone to the new (at the time) LG V60 ThinQ. A great device, but I had to wait for the update from my service provider to the latest Android operating system, Android 11. After getting the update I noticed that my phone wasn’t getting pictures or videos via text (MMS) when my phone was connected to Wi-Fi. All my other phones seemed to have no problem, but this phone used to get MMS before the update to Android 11. My first call was to Bell (my service provider for both cellular and home internet). In speaking with tech support for cellular he suggested that I turn off Wi-Fi and see if I could get MMS on cellular data. Sure enough the pictures downloaded on cellular data. The support person said that it must be a problem with my Wi-Fi router and I needed to contact my internet service provider. A call to Bell Aliant customer service representative (CSR) revealed that my router, the latest unit available, needed a firmware update. She said my service would be interrupted while the firmware was installed, but it should solve my MMS cell phone problems… surprise, no change! So, another call to Aliant, this time I was told that this was the way things were going to work from now on with MMS and that I should “Google” it, there was absolutely NOTHING Bell could do regarding this change and that if I wanted to see an MMS I had to turn off my Wi-Fi and use my cellular data! This guy was a capital “M” Moron! I finally, in frustration made a call to LG’s tech support. I was told that yes, this was and is a known issue, not only affecting LG phones but also phones from other manufacturers after the update to Android 11, and that Google is aware of the issue and are working on a fix for the issue and that there should be a software sent over the network to resolve this problem… but she didn’t know when! Moral of this story: most service reps know nothing beyond what their corporate bible tells them and a lot of the time that bible is wrong! TALK TO AN EXPERT!!
