Unfortunately a lot of new home buyers have let companies that never “asked the right questions” of their client when they designed a theater system for their home. If the right questions were asked they would have discovered that this home owner is extremely style conscious, loves MMA and action movies and listens to mostly rock and Hip-Hop music. Designing the “right” system for the client makes all the difference as to whether the client truly “enjoys” their new entertainment system.
I was originally contacted by this client to “clean up” wiring and properly calibrate the system. During this process I asked the client why he had decided on the equipment for his system. He said that he just went with what the installing company had suggested. Having actually talked with the client, I asked if he enjoyed the current system. His answer was “telling”! Although the original equipment was of good quality, it was totally unsuitable for the room size and the client’s tastes in movies and music. I made a number of suggestions as to what could be done to get a system that he really “enjoys.
A couple of years went by and the client contacted me again to say “Let’s fix this”! I replaced the main speakers with Paradigm Monitor series in white to match a new white cabinet below a new 70″ Sony TV, updated his 8″, totally inadequate subwoofer, to a 15″ Paradigm Defiance subwoofer, replaced the underpowered audio receiver with a new higher power unit and configured his room so that he now has rear channel speakers, so now, surround sound actually works! When completed I asked the client what he thought of the new system. The response was what makes me continue to design outstanding entertainment systems for clients! “OMG”!!
