This little reminder was again brought to my attention by a senior Bell Fibe TV technician, and I profoundly agree! Bell now has new 4K and wireless television boxes, and while the picture quality and overall performance of these boxes is greatly improved, the supplied remote control hand unit has taken a step backward. The old remotes in addition to controlling your TV, could also control other devices, like your A/V receiver and your DVD/Blu-Ray player. These new remotes can only control your TV, but only turn up or down the volume and turn your TV on and off. The Bell tech joked that it was good for my business as Wired 1 Consulting sells universal remote control hand unit from Harmony, URC and RTI. Just have to shake my head and wonder!
It never ceases to amaze me that internet service providers continue to try and install their equipment in the WORST possible location in a new home construction. I consistently see wireless routers installed in basement electrical rooms amidst wiring, electrical panels and metal air ducts. WiFi is radio frequencies and WILL NOT pass through anything metal and close proximity to electrical wiring causes interference. Routers are basically little FM radio stations, and they transmit and receive in a conical fashion. In other words, the higher the router is in the home the larger the transceiver footprint is going to be. The WORST PLACE for a router is in the basement!

Another 4K THX certified TV
A great client bought a 55″ top of the line Samsung TV from a big box store 6 years ago, and we installed it for them. At the time Wired 1 Consulting didn’t sell televisions, but we sure do now! Well, after only 6 years the Samsung died! It would not turn on. The repair cost estimates were astronomical, and I suggested that he may be throwing good money after bad. Beside the fact that a new TV would be a 4K UHD set. I recommended a Panasonic THX certified set. He agreed, and we installed the new set. My follow up call was a testimony to the amazing performance of the TV. “The TV works perfectly and the picture is amazing”… we love those kinds of comments!
