Make Sure That Your Cable Box/Satellite Receiver Is Giving You The Best Picture

One of the many things that happens when your power goes out is that a lot of electronics will reset themselves to the factory default setting when the power comes back on. While this is great for your refrigerator, it’s not so good for your cable box and most satellite receivers.

If you have a high definition television you will want to check the resolution settings in the cable box/satellite receiver to make sure that the picture is set at 1080 lines of horizontal resolution. In Roger’s cable boxes for instance, the factory default is 480 lines of resolution, so check those settings out, you could be missing a lot of detail in your picture!

Getting your electronics working again after a power outage

New Brunswick and in particular, Fredericton was hit last week-end with one of the most devastating storms in memory. Well over 100,ooo clients of NB Power (the provinces only power provider) lost power. Some, including me, are still without power at the time of this posting!

While losing power suddenly usually does not cause major problems with electronics, the restoration of power after an outage certainly can. The damage can occur because of surges in the amount of power coming into your home when power is restored. The best plan of action is to unplug all your electronics until after the power has been back on for at least a half hour. This time allows the power delivery to stabilize, making it much safer for your electronics.

If you have a smart universal remote control it is important that you confirm that all of your equipment in in an “off” state before you try to use the remote control to operate the system. Some electronics will turn on automatically when the power comes back on and this can cause an out of synchronization for the remote control! You won’t do any damage, but it can be very frustrating if you don’t start with all your equipment turned off.

I hope this is some help to our many customers who now finally have power restored and for those that still don’t have power it should be back on soon!

Controlling noise in your life.

I recently watched a TED talk about how noise can effect your health and how productivity in the workplace has decreased dramatically since the open concept office was introduced, primarily due to noise pollution. It also discussed how noise in the retail space can negatively affect sales and affect clients impression of the establishment, in a lot of cases leaving and never coming back, all because the sound in the place was bad! This bad sound can be the choice of music or the volume level that the business is playing for background music, but most times it is because the noise in the business makes it hard to talk or there is so much other noise in the establishment that you just can’t think straight!
Sound is very important to our mental health. The sound of birds singing, waves lapping on a beach and breezes through the trees relax us, while cacophonous sounds put us on edge, no one likes police sirens or heavy equipment backup warning beepers, they have a reason to exist, but you don’t want them when you are trying to relax or concentrate on something else!
At Wired 1 Consulting we specialize in controlling unwanted noise in both commercial and residential areas and the results of our work is truly astounding!
Busy establishments that you couldn’t have a normal speaking voice conversation were changed dramatically. Home theater systems that everybody had difficulty hearing the dialogue of a movie magically brought the actor into the room with you. No, it’s not magic, it’s sound control!
Have you had a bad sound experience in a Fredericton business? Let us know.

It looks good if it’s done right!

At Wired 1 Consulting we take pride in doing a job right! This 60″ SONY is installed in a formal living room which by day gets plenty of use by the kids (thus the picture on screen) but it’s ready to go for the hockey game tonight, World Cup Soccer next week and football season is right around the corner!

Note that there are no wires hanging from the bottom of the TV, everything is concealed inside the wall. It’s a pet peeve when I go to a place of business or someone’s living room and I see wires dangling, collecting dust! How and why do people pay for such mediocre service? Baffling!

Moving into a full digital interface.

A lot, I mean A LOT, of our clients have excellent theater systems that were custom installed by me back in the days predating connection technologies such as HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface). This can present a problem when it comes time to update or replace devices in your system. DVD players and the vast majority of Blue Ray Players, not to mention Apple TV, Google TV, and a lot of streaming media devices, don’t have analog video and  audio connections anymore. You also may not have a projector/television that can accept these newer connections. Without a digital connection you are going to have a heck of a time integrating new equipment and technologies. Maybe you want to watch Netflix or stream content from your new Smart Phone or Tablet to Your theatre system to show a slide show or a video that you recorded. This is going to require some significant changes in your system.

Wired 1 Consulting can help you move your system into the full digital age. Contact us now for a FREE in home consultation to help you make this transition as simple and affordable as possible! (506)470-7510

Don’t come out of the closet!!

50" Panasonic LED panel wall mounted above an in wall electric fireplace

50″ Panasonic LED panel wall mounted above an in wall electric fireplace

This is how your home theatre should be! No electronics or messy wires getting in the way of your enjoyment. The only items in the living room are the TV and a subwoofer, all the speakers are installed in the ceiling and the electronics are hidden away in a media closet in another room of the house. A Harmony Ultimate remote control runs everything from the living room couch – right through the walls!

One of the great things about this system is that even though the speakers are mounted in the ceiling of the living room the SpeakerCraft AIM speakers make it sound like the dialog and action are happening right on the screen! Our client was VERY impressed!
