How to beat boredom!
I must have had a premonition. 4 days before the governments of the world declared the COVID 19 outbreak a pandemic my new stereo system arrived! It’s been a boredom beater…in spades! My new system consists of the incredible ANTHEM STR INTEGRATED, Paradigm Defiance X12 subwoofer and Paradigm Prestige 15B speakers on beautiful Paradigm speaker stands. Thus far I have been blown away by high bit rate music files from my own music collection and streaming services from Tidal, beautifully coordinated by Roon. Unboxing a beast!
On a recent trip to the head office/production facility for Paradigm/ANTHEM I was intrigued by the new STR product lineup from ANTHEM. Having read many exemplary reviews and having seen it, I was unable to hear it. Beautifully styled and meticulously crafted by hand right there in their Mississauga factory, I actually watched them being made. The line consists of 3 pieces; a pre amplifier, a stereo power amplifier and an integrated stereo amplifier. The reviews of these “crafted in Canada” electronics decidedly put them in a performance class that is usually reserved for equipment that we mere mortals can only salivate over, but never afford. I have always been a “stereo” guy. I do enjoy a great surround system, but it has to perform well in a stereo configuration first and foremost. I have had many great amplifiers over the years, I built my first Dynaco pre/power system at age 18 (Pat4a and ST150) and have had many great amplifiers since, Krell, Carver, Conrad-Johnson etc., and this ANTHEM Integrated amplifier is right up there, for considerably less money, than it’s competition and incorporating some incredible electronic sophistication. In ceiling speakers
In ceiling speakers are great. There’s no on wall or on floor clutter and no speaker wires to trip on or the inevitable dust bunnies! If the in ceiling speakers are installed properly they will give you a lifetime of enjoyment. The most important thing is to make sure that your contractor is using containment housings for your in ceiling speakers. They stop the sound from escaping into the rafter space, greatly reducing the transfer of sound to other areas of the home and help focus the sound back into the room for better sound, they prevent insulation from falling into the speaker mechanism and in the case of metal containment boxes they provide a fire break that far exceeds the rating of your ceiling drywall. Wall mounting a TV on an outside wall.
When a TV is wall mounted on an inside wall of a home there are lots of options to hide cabling within the wall cavity but sometimes an outside wall is all that is available. Trying to put cabling within the wall cavity is not advised as it breaks the vapour barrier of the wall and pulls the insulation. The best solution is to use wire conceal. All the cabling is hidden inside a paintable nylon conduit, that when installed properly hides all the cabling between the TV and attached electronics for a slick, clean look.

Staff room upgrade
No more white board for this staff room! A new 55″ QLED 4K Samsung monitor will be the new focal point for ongoing staff training. 3/4″ plywood is used for mounting the TV on the wall with toggle lag bolts because of metal stud work (very common in commercial buildings). A CSA/UL certified power & low voltage conduit is installed, keeping a clean look with no ugly cables hanging from the TV! (Every time I see wires hanging from the bottom of a wall mounted TV it makes me cringe!!). Directly connected to an Lenovo laptop via HDMI this system is open for business!

Dolby Atmos done right!
When you choose Wired 1 Consulting to design and install your new home theater you can be sure that it’s done right. In this theater design the room is an open concept, with no right or left walls so we used Paradigm Surround Ones mounted to the rear wall. The speakers are a bipolar design creating an expansive sound for the rear. A pair of Paradigm in ceiling speakers are used for the Dolby Atmos channels on the system. There is a 10″ subwoofer operating wirelessly. Up front 3 Paradigm slim line speakers provide right, left and center audio. A 65″ Panasonic 4K THX certified QLED television delivers an incredible image. A Panasonic DP-UB900 Ultra HD media player gives the best image and sound quality available.
